Danza Viva is the longest-running Spanish Dance Academy in Western Australia, established in 1984 as the first of its kind by Deanna Blacher. For her services to dance Deanna was awarded an OAM, and in 2015 handed over the reins to Sofia Pratt the current Director of Danza Viva.
Sofia Pratt
Director of Danza Viva Sofia Pratt studied ballet at the Graduate College of Dance before discovering Spanish Dance and Flamenco at Danza Viva. After completing her training at Danza Viva, Sofia went on to study extensively in Spain with some of the most prominent Spanish Maestros including Andrés Peña, Olga Pericet, Ruben Olmo and Javier Latorre. In 2010 the Instituto de la Danza Espanola awarded her the degree of Maestro de Baile, with special distinction. She is also examiner for the institute.
Spanish culture and the Flamenco art form
At Danza Viva we teach more than just dance. We teach the history of Flamenco, its cultural influences, the language, and the meaning behind what we do and how we do it. Not only do we offer dance lessons, but percussion lessons, and even singing. With Danza Viva you’re getting the full art form.

Flamenco is an ever-evolving art form, with the greatest Flamenco artists developing new material each year. That’s why our company ensures they’re always learning so that they can provide you with the best Perth has to offer. Our people regularly travel to Spain to ensure they can bring the best the greatest Flamenco dancers have to offer back to you. From classical to just this year, our team can teach you a range of dances and styles.
What we do at Danza Viva
Danza Viva is a Flamenco academy and company providing group and private classes, along with professional dance services for corporate, private, and public events.
Dance Lessons
We offer lessons for all ages and abilities as either open choreography or more structured syllabus class. We also offer one-on-one coaching at all levels.
Productions and Performances
We regularly run Tablao performances at local venues, and annually produce a whole of school show. Danza Viva is also a Fringe World Festival multi award winning company.
