Beginning with a guided practice in direction and placement, students will explore and negotiate ways of moving in a “flamenco way,” while simultaneously developing sensitivity, a relationship to self and space. The workshop will focus on the key qualities that constitute the stylistic nature of the solea. These will include the forms compás (rhythm) together with the practice of building a score using stillness, walking and noticeable moments of breathing. Students will work towards understanding the emotionality of the form and its intrinsic relationship to both dance and flamenco.
